ZEO Plus – Organoclay Media Quat Modified Natural Zeolite (SMZ)

ZEO Plus is an organoclay type filter media for removing organic and inorganic contaminants from air and water. The ZEO Plus organoclay is a quaternary amine (quat) surface modified zeolite (SMZ).  ZeoSand is coated with the HDTMA quat to produce ZEO Plus.

Both anions (negatively charged) and cations (positively charged) are removed by ZEO Plus. Only a portion of the natural zeolite cation removal capacity is used to bond the quat. This unused cation exchange capacity is available to remove cations like heavy metal such as lead, cadmium, and chromium. Anions such as chromate and phosphate are removed by the action of the bonded quat.

The organic tail of the quat removes and bonds both aromatic and straight chain hydrocarbons. ZEO Plus is especially effective in breaking oil and water emulsions.

Dr. Robert Bowman is considered by many of us to be the founder of the surface modified natural zeolite technology and has published extensively. One of his co-authored publications gives a feeling for the depth of his work and can be found at: EOX, Vol 83, No 10, 30 April 2002.

Three sizes of ZEO Plus are available: 14×40, 8×14, and 4×8.
