ZeoSand
Engineered Zeolite Filtration Media for Cleaner Water
Engineered natural filtration media designed to capture finer particles, reduce backwashing, and improve system efficiency.
Performance Comparison
ZeoSand is the trusted filtration media used in thousands of residential and commercial systems for more than 25 years. ZeoSand is an engineered natural zeolite filtration media designed to deliver measurable improvements in filtration efficiency and operational performance compared with conventional silica sand filter media.
| Property | ZeoSand | Typical Silica Sand |
|---|---|---|
| Surface Area (BET) | ~26 m²/g surface area (100× higher than sand) | ~0.1–0.3 m²/g |
| Filtration Mechanism | Depth + surface filtration | Primarily surface filtration |
| Bulk Density | ~55 lb/ft³ | ~100 lb/ft³ |
| Backwashing | Less frequent | More frequent |
ZeoSand Improves Filtration Performance
ZeoSand’s porous natural zeolite structure captures finer particles and improves filtration efficiency compared with conventional silica sand. These properties translate directly into improved water clarity, efficient filtration operation, and reduced maintenance requirements.
Finer Particle Removal
The high surface area and internal pore structure of zeolite media allow ZeoSand to capture smaller suspended particles than conventional sand. This improves water clarity and helps maintain cleaner filtration systems.
Reduced Backwashing
Because particles are captured within the depth of the media rather than only on the surface, filters operating with ZeoSand may require less frequent backwashing. Reduced backwashing can lower water consumption and extend filtration cycles.
Efficient Filtration Operation
ZeoSand’s lower bulk density allows effective depth filtration while maintaining stable filter operation. This combination supports reliable filtration performance in residential and commercial pool systems.
Fine-Particle Filtration Performance
Independent testing demonstrates that ZeoSand provides improved small-particle removal, higher dirt-loading capacity, and lower hydraulic resistance compared to conventional sand filtration media.
Applications
ZeoSand is engineered zeolite filtration media used across residential, commercial, municipal, and industrial filtration systems. Whether replacing silica sand in a swimming pool or improving pretreatment ahead of reverse osmosis, ZeoSand delivers finer particle removal, higher dirt-loading capacity, and longer filtration cycles. Drinking Water
NSF-certified filtration media for residential and commercial drinking water systems requiring water clarity and long service life.
Multimeda Filter Upgrades
Replace sand with engineered zeolite media to increase dirt-loading capacity, extend filter runs, and reduce maintenance.
RO Pretreatment
Lower SDI, improve suspended solids removal, and reduce membrane fouling ahead of reverse osmosis systems.
Industrial Process Water
Improve clarification and protect downstream equipment in industrial process water and wastewater filtration systems.
Replacing Sand with ZeoSand
ZeoSand natural zeolite filtration media is designed as a direct replacement for conventional silica sand in filtration systems. Installation procedures are similar to those used when replacing standard sand media.
Because ZeoSand has a lower bulk density than silica sand, the amount of media required is typically less than the sand it replaces.
Typical guideline
Replace 50 lb of silica sand with approximately 25 lb of ZeoSand filtration media.
Complete installation, start-up, and operational guidance is provided in the ZeoSand Technical Manual. Add water to the filter before adding ZeoSand.
