Natural Zeolite Formation

The unique properties of natural zeolites, such as its multichannel structure and cation exchange capacity, were initiated many years ago when volcanic explosions distributed ash aluminosilicates created from alkaline soil.

Formation of Natural Zeolites

Millions of years ago, natural zeolite deposits used for ZEO’s products formed when volcanoes erupted enormous amounts of ash–aluminosilicates of alkali and alkaline earths. Some of the wind borne ash settled to form thick ash beds. In some cases the ash fell into lakes and in others, water percolated through the ash beds. In all cases, the chemical reaction of volcanic ash and salt water resulted in the formation of natural zeolites. Amazing, the power of a volcano harnessed for use in natural zeolites. We, at ZEO, call it the zeolite blast.
